Purpose:  

The current scope of healthcare risk management often includes hands on management of patient claims including direct communication with patients/claimants, investigation of healthcare information related to the claim as well as responding to the discovery of a lawsuit. This presentation will provide the necessary tools to manage the variety of claims encountered in healthcare risk management and the associated documents that often accompany those claims. Please join us for the first CHRMS webinar on the “Nuts and Bolts of Risk Management”, Part 1 of a 3 part series, CLAIMS MANAGEMENT 101, a review of basic risk management principles for both new and seasoned risk managers.  

Objectives:

Identify the types of claims encountered by hospital risk managers. 

Describe the steps and procedures in the claims handling process. 

Understand documents and records that need to be collected, retained and secured and processes. 

Criteria for successful completion: Attendance at the entire webinar.
