During this session, the speaker will share practical tips and tools for dealing wtih different types of state and federal authorities who approach a hospital or other healthcare facility for information.  Please join us to discuss this interesting topic.

Objectives:

• Learn how to respond to police officers' requests for patient information: when information can be shared, and when it cannot.
   
  
• Understand how to handle unannounced state or federal license surveyors, including the role of risk management.
  
  
• Describe general principles for dealing with other authorities, including IEMA, OSHA, IDFPR, and others. 
  
  
• Identify the best way to report these visits to senior leadership and the board of directors.
  
  

Speaker: 

Wendy L. Rubas, JD is General Counsel at Northwest Community Hospital.  She has formerly serviced as in house counsel in Cadence Health and Provena Health Systems in Illinois.  She started her health care practice at McDermott Will and Emery in Chicago.  Ms. Rubas graduated from Loyola University in Chicago.
